Skyline Drive May 29th to June 1st  and  June 26th to 29th

Front Royal, VA - Rockfish Gap, VA

Come join us on this 105 mile ride along the scenic Skyline Drive. Skyline Drive is the best combination of bicycle riding in the region. It combines a well paved, lightly traveled roadway, with challenging topography, all wrapped in a scenic experience that is the best our national parks have to offer. For its overall experience, the Skyline Drive has been chosen one of the Top Ten U. S. Road Bicycling Routes by GORP.com

Due to overwhelming intrest in this ride last year, we are offering it twice this year, once from Tuesday May 29th thru Friday June 1st, and then again from Tuesday June 26th thru Friday June 29th. Click here for registration information

Skyline Drive is not just a 105-mile road through Shenandoah National Park; it is a way to experience it. You will pass rock cliffs, and vistas, and probably deer and other wildlife; You will ride through tunnels of trees, past wildflowers and ferns, and by banks of mountain laurel in bloom. 75 overlooks offer a place to stop and rest, and absorb the view and the peace. The 35-miles-per-hour speed limit and generous two-lane road surface allows ample space for auto drivers to enjoy their ride and helps to ensure the safety of both wildlife and bicyclists.

The Skyline Drive was built and landscaped between 1933 and 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corp with the help of the Army Corp of Engineers and local sub-contractors. While the Drive straddles the top of a mountain ridge, the route planners went to great lengths to keep the grade under 9% and gentle enough that the vehicles used in building the drive could traverse its length with nominal effort and safety. Today's Skyline Drive follows a path that was first surveyed for the original, planned route of the Appalachian Trail. The “AT” now parallels the Skyline Drive the entire length, and crosses it many times.
